SEPTEMBER
I hope everyone has had a great summer! We at Liberty Karate Club are glad to welcome Carel Millionard back to the dojo. Carel received his Honorable Discharge from the Air Force and will be pursuing a different career goal. However he remains dedicated to karate-do and committed to our dojo and we are thrilled to have him back in the family.
I want to remind all readers of this website to mark October 16th in your calendar. That is the date for the Kampout at Kyoshi's, which promises to be a memorable event. There will be a Friday night workout for those who arrive early, and the official workout will end Sunday afternoon. For complete details, check out the N.A.M.K.A. website through the link on this site.
Now I just want to leave you with some thoughts on karate-do. I do not take credit for these thoughts. They are all things I have heard and read during my years of training, they make sense to me, and I believe they correctly describe what karate-do is all about. Read on......
Karate is a training of both mind and body, a discipline to be applied to every facet of one's existence. It is a way of thinking, a plan for living and above all, a way of developing morality. Lacking these goals, all training is in vain; no amount of fighting skill could ever compensate for a lack of character.
As for fighting, you do it when you can't run away, when you can't talk your way out of it, when you can't back down. That's right, I said back down. When you can hurt a man and don't, then you're worthy of the skill you carry around. You can be trusted with it, and that's your character, your strength. Ponder these things........
Love, Sensei
